Animals and ecology

Ecology is a vast area of research encompassing many different disciplines. The usual classification, which starts with the lowest levels of complexity is the following:

  • Behavioral ecology, which studies the behavioral patterns in animals adaptation to the environment.
  • Population ecology, which studies the dynamics of the population of a certain species.
  • Synecology, which is ecology of interrelationships that deals with the structure of entire ecological communities.
  • Ecology of ecosystems, which investigates the flow of energies and substances throughout the components of the ecosystems.
  • Systems ecology, which is an interdisciplinary field of ecology, focusing on the holistic approach to the study of ecological systems.
  • Geographical ecology, which studies the relationships between the aspects of the ecosystem and the geography of the erea.
  • Evolutionary ecology, which is focused on the evolutionary history of the species.

Based on the subject and area of research, Ecology can be divided into Animal ecology, plant ecology, insect ecology, etc. In this part of the EoS directory we focus our attention on Animal ecology.

Animal ecology resources as compiled and presented by WICE (World Institute for Conservation and Environment), a worldwide non-government non-profit organization.
