Vedic astrology

Vedic Astrology or Jyotish (Sanskrit jyotiṣa) is a system of astrology (also known as Indian astrology, Hindu astrology). Since we already know the meaning of the word astrology let us take a look at the origin of the word Vedic. The ancient sacred Hindu book is called Veda. This word comes from from Sanskrit veda "knowledge. The books are the RigVeda, YajurVeda, SamaVeda, and AtharvaVeda. Therefore, Vedic Astrology is mostly taught in India, Lanka, Nepal, and Tibet, and at the beginning there was a panel of jyotish gurus in the traditional jyotish parampara (Parampara means a succession of teachers and disciples).

Jyotish is considered to be the Eye of the Vedas which throws light on them and points toward their meaning in people's lives. Jyotish enables seeing the will of God and following the guidance so that one can reach the maximum capacity in one's life. It is claimed that the ultimate aim and meaning of life can be contemplated simply by practicing Jyotish astrology.

In the etymology of the word jyótis one can distinguish the following meanings:

• "light, heavenly body", and
• "Isha" which is a form of Shiva, or God

Therefore, Jyotish is the light of knowledge an wisdom which is capable of lighting our way and taking us up towards God and Truth.
